Profit under pressure; awaiting a turnaround; maintain BUY
Zhejiang Meida (Meida) reported (12 July) 1H24 preliminary results, guiding for attributable net profit (NP)/recurring attributable NP of RMB96-102/95-101mn, down 55.98-53.23/56.14-53.37% yoy. The implied 2Q24 attributable NP/recurring attributable NP are RMB18.84-24.84/18.04-24.06mn, down 83.95-78.84/84.56-79.43% yoy. Given soft property completions/sales, we do not anticipate a turnaround for the integrated stove market this year. As an industry leader, Meida may experience a significant yoy decline in sales volume of integrated stoves for 2024, in our view. We thus lower our 2024/2025/2026 EPS forecasts to RMB0.62/0.63/0.66 (previous: RMB0.70/0.71/0.74), and value the stock at 15x 2024E PE, at par with its Wind consensus-based peers’ average, for our target price of RMB9.30 (previous: RMB10.50). Maintain BUY.
Kitchen appliances/integrated stoves demand lackluster in 1H24
Affected by the property downturn, performance of the kitchen appliance market was tepid in 1H24. Demand for integrated stoves, a new category in kitchen appliance, was also affected. According to AVC, domestic online retail sales volume/sales value for integrated stoves in 1H24 were 167,900 units/RMB1,205mn, down 37.78/44.32% yoy; while domestic offline retail sales volume/sales value hit 16,600 units/RMB177mn, down 3.42/1.88% yoy.
Property completions/sales soft; consumption willingness down
The property sector recovered slowly in 1H24, as reflected by soft residential property completions and property sales. According to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), cumulative residential property sales/completions by GFA in 5M24 recorded 307/162mn sqm, down 23.60/19.78% yoy. This, coupled with weak domestic consumption recovery featuring low propensity to consume, makes us believe the kitchen appliance and integrated stove markets could remain in a downcycle in 2H24, with a turnaround yet to emerge.
Ramping up market expansion & enhancing operational efficiency
Against the backdrop of industry downturn, Meida continues to promote market sales, actively improves its cooking-washing full-scenario application ecosystem, and builds a one-stop kitchen product supply chain. Externally, the company plans to step up market expansion efforts to broaden distribution networks; internally, it plans to reinforce R&D investment, diversify the product lineup, and enhance management efficiency, so as to elevate operational efficiency.
Risks: slower product iteration than we expect; intensifying competition in the e-commerce channel; slower store expansion than we expect.
