Petrochemical Storage Bottoming Out; AI Computing Takes Off

Great River Smarter Logistics released its 1H26 results: revenue came in at RMB672mn (+13.82% YoY), attributable NP at RMB23.78mn (+294.90% YoY), and recurring attributable NP at RMB17.82mn (+200.09% YoY). For 2Q26, revenue was RMB323mn (+20.85% YoY, -7.34% QoQ), and attributable NP was RMB5.39mn (+116.26% YoY, -70.69% QoQ), in line with the profit alert. The QoQ decline in 2Q26 profit reflects the Middle East situation disrupting the sector's recovery, but petrochemical warehousing demand and core earnings have improved from the 2025 trough. Given these, coupled with revenue contribution from the intelligent computing business (which opens up new growth potential) and the current share price that has over-discounted pessimistic expectations, we upgrade the rating from HOLD to OVERWEIGHT.
Tensions in the Middle East disrupted import arrival
In 1H26, the cumulative PPI for the chemical raw materials and chemical products manufacturing sector rose by 3.9% YoY, and the cumulative PPI for the petroleum, coal, and other fuel processing sector rose by 3.1% YoY, a marked improvement from -4.4% and -9.8% in 1H25. The petrochemical sector's pricing has recovered, driven by higher international oil and gas prices, Middle East supply disruptions, and a low base. As a leading indicator of warehousing demand, average methanol inventories at East China/South China ports in 1H26 were 490k/265k tonnes, up c. 16.2/34.7% YoY; average ethylene glycol inventory at East China ports was 776k tonnes, up 25.6% YoY. Inventory levels recovered YoY but declined QoQ, as the Middle East situation and strait transit disruptions reduced arrivals of crude oil and some chemicals.
Earnings forecasts and valuation
Considering that tensions in the Middle East situation are disrupting import arrivals of chemicals such as methanol, and that the recovery in petrochemical warehousing demand and charging levels is slower than we previously expected; coupled with the intelligent computing business still in its early investment stage, with the earnings contribution from cluster construction and computing power leasing yet to materialize, we lower our 2026-2028 attributable NP forecasts to RMB70/181/266mn (adjusted by -38.25/-18.75/-12.59% vs our previous forecasts), corresponding to EPS of RMB0.15/0.39/0.58 and BVPS of RMB4.71/5.06/5.52. We value the stock at 2.14x 2026E PB (previous: 2.8x PB, which was the 5Y historical average PB minus 0.5 standard deviation; this valuation is the 5Y historical average PB minus 1 standard deviation, with the wider valuation discount due to the slower-than-expected recovery in the core petrochemical warehousing business, the new business still in its early investment stage, and a high leverage ratio), corresponding to a target price of RMB10.09 (previous: RMB13.41). However, considering that the share price has over-discounted pessimistic expectations, coupled with the elimination of convertible bond redemption uncertainty and the YoY recovery in core earnings, the current risk-reward profile has improved. We upgrade from HOLD to OVERWEIGHT.
Risks: petrochemical sector demand falling short of our expectations; M&A and investment risks; safety risks.
