Steven E. Koonin is a University Professor at New York University NYU, where he is also Professor of Information, Operations, and Management Sciences in the Stern School of Business and of Civil and Urban Engineering in the Tandon School of Engineering. He served as the founding Director of NYU's Center for Urban Science and Progress from April 2012 through August 2018. Prior to joining NYU, Dr. Koonin served as Undersecretary for Science at the U.S. Department of Energy from May 2009 following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate, until November 2011. Prior to joining the government, Dr. Koonin spent five years, from March 2004 to May 2009 as Chief Scientist for BP, p.l.c. From September 1975 to July 2006 Dr. Koonin was a professor of theoretical physics at Caltech and was the institute’s Provost from February 1995 to January 2004. Dr. Koonin was a director of CERES, Inc., a publicly traded company pursuing genetically enhanced bioenergy crops, from 2012 to 2015. His memberships include the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the Council on Foreign Relations and previously the Trilateral Commission. He has been a member of the JASON advisory group from July 1988 to May 2009 and from November 2011 to present, and served as the group’s chair from 1998 to 2004. Prior to joining RWD in 2005 Ms. Begley was with SAP America where she served as Senior Vice President, Education for North America, from 2001 to 2005 and held a variety of training and financial positions from 1996 to 2001. From 1988 to 1996 Ms. Begley was Manager of the Mid-Atlantic Consumer Products group for Sony Corporation of America. Prior to that, she held accounting positions at Owens Illinois, International Playtex and Chesapeake Paper Company. Ms. Begley received a B.S. degree in Business Administration/Accounting from Montclair State College.- Patricia R.
