Empyrean Technology posted 1H26 revenue of RMB566mn (+12.95% YoY), an attributable net loss of RMB45.1mn versus attributable NP of RMB3.1mn in 1H25, and an ex-nonrecurring net loss of RMB65.1mn versus a loss of RMB18.6mn in 1H25. In 2Q26, revenue reached RMB310mn (+15.83% YoY, +20.47% QoQ), while attributable NP and ex-nonrecurring NP came in at RMB27.9mn and RMB18.5mn, respectively, both turning profitable YoY and QoQ. We remain positive on the company’s continued expansion of its full-flow EDA product portfolio and accelerating breakthroughs in AI, advanced packaging, and 3DIC products. Its market share could continue to increase amid ongoing domestic substitution. Maintain OVERWEIGHT.
Technical services drive revenue growth; 2Q26 profit recovers
Revenue maintained steady growth in 1H26. By business, EDA software sales revenue reached RMB434mn (+4.89% YoY), while technical services revenue increased to RMB103mn (+53.88% YoY), making technical services the main growth driver in 1H26. A higher revenue contribution from technical services and the associated increase in costs reduced overall gross margin to 87.48%, -1.64pp YoY. The selling, administrative, and R&D expense ratios were 20.73%/14.42%/72.61%, respectively, -2.00pp/+1.76pp/-0.23pp YoY. R&D expenses reached RMB411mn (+12.59% YoY). Combined with higher administrative expenses and increased credit impairment losses, this weighed on near-term earnings. Share-based compensation expenses totaled approximately RMB53.5mn during the period. Excluding share-based compensation, net profit was RMB6.6mn, -93.56% YoY. However, both attributable NP and ex-nonrecurring NP turned positive in 2Q26, as revenue growth and seasonal operating leverage drove a notable recovery in profitability.
Full-flow coverage to unlock localization opportunities
The company has achieved full-flow design coverage across analog, memory, RF, and flat-panel display applications, while continuing to expand its tool coverage in digital design and wafer manufacturing. During the reporting period, ALPS obtained certification for 8nm/5nm/4nm process nodes, while several core tools received certification under the ISO 26262 and IEC 61508 international standards. The company’s PDK suites now cover more than 70% of the process nodes at leading domestic foundries and have been closely optimized for Hygon DCUs. As of end-June 2026, the company had 1,128 R&D personnel, accounting for 74% of its workforce, and had secured 411 authorized patents and 208 software copyrights. Rising domestic demand for advanced-node technologies, AI chips and advanced packaging could accelerate product qualification and scaled deployment. Over the longer term, the company is well positioned to benefit from EDA localization and China’s push for greater self-reliance across the full EDA toolchain.
Earnings forecast and valuation
Factoring in fluctuations in downstream order timing, we lower our 2026E/2027E revenue forecasts to RMB1.8bn/RMB2.1bn (-13.3%/-19.9% vs our previous forecasts) and introduce our 2028E revenue forecast of RMB2.5bn. According to iFinD consensus, comparable companies trade at 17.2x 2027E PS. Given the company’s leading full-flow coverage, we apply 32x 2027E PS and derive a target price of RMB124.53 (previously RMB143.87, based on 38x 2026E PS). Maintain OVERWEIGHT.
